๐ช๏ธ Building Climate Resilience Across ASEAN's Most Vulnerable Communities
Your contribution helps communities across Southeast Asia adapt to climate change, build disaster-resistant infrastructure, and recover from increasingly severe typhoons, floods, droughts, and climate disasters. Support climate-resilient housing, early warning systems, livelihood adaptation, and community preparedness.
๐ ASEAN Climate Crisis & Vulnerability
The Challenge: Southeast Asia is one of the world's most climate-vulnerable regions. Rising sea levels, intensifying typhoons, severe floods, prolonged droughts, and extreme weather devastate communities annually. 150 million people live in high-risk climate zones. Climate change is making disasters more frequent, more severe, and more deadlyโdestroying homes, livelihoods, and lives.
Typhoon Intensification: Super typhoons are becoming stronger and more frequent. Philippines faces 20+ typhoons annually, with Category 5 super typhoons causing catastrophic destruction. Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar face increasingly severe tropical storms. Typhoon Haiyan (2013) killed 6,300 people and displaced 4 million. Recent super typhoons cause $5-10 billion in damage each.
Sea Level Rise: Coastal communities across ASEAN face existential threats from rising seas. Vietnam's Mekong Delta, Thailand's coastal provinces, Indonesia's islands, and Philippines' coastal barangays are being submerged. Saltwater intrusion destroys agriculture. Storm surges reach farther inland. Entire communities must relocate.
Flooding Crisis: Climate change intensifies monsoon floods. Myanmar's 2024 floods displaced 1 million people. Thailand's floods cause billions in damage. Mekong River floods devastate Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. Urban flooding paralyzes cities. Flash floods kill hundreds in mountainous areas.
Drought & Food Insecurity: Changing rainfall patterns cause severe droughts. Cambodia, Thailand, and Vietnam face recurring droughts destroying rice crops. Water shortages affect millions. Agricultural livelihoods collapse. Food prices spike causing hunger.
Infrastructure Vulnerability: Homes, schools, hospitals, roads, and infrastructure are not built to withstand climate disasters. Typhoons destroy everything. Floods wash away bridges. Communities are left without shelter, services, or livelihoods.
